We are proud to share that Jan-Willem Beenakker has been appointed professor in Ophthalmic Physics at the Leiden University.

This field connects physics, technology, and ophthalmology, from the optics required for clear vision to the advanced imaging and treatment technologies used in ocular oncology. The appointment recognizes a research line that combines fundamental innovation with direct clinical relevance.

Jan-Willem’s work focuses in particular on new imaging techniques for uveal melanoma, with the aim of treating patients more precisely while preserving vision as much as possible. This research is carried out in close collaboration with colleagues in Radiology and Radiotherapy, reflecting the strongly interdisciplinary character of ophthalmic physics.

We warmly congratulate Jan-Willem on this milestone and look forward to the next steps in expanding research, education, and clinical impact.
