PhD defense of Luc van Vught

Luc van Vught successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Uncovering the origin of negative dysphotopsia” at Leiden University. His research focused on understanding and preventing negative dysphotopsia—a phenomenon where patients perceive dark shadows in their vision following cataract surgery. By combining optical simulations and MRI scans of the eye, Luc elucidated the cause of this visual complaint and explored potential preventive measures. Along the way, he co-developed ZOSPy, our open-source Python package for optical simulations in OpticStudio.
Dr. Van Vught, we wish you all the best, and thank you for the great, kind, hardworking company all those years!
P.S. For those wondering about the small red patches on some committee members’ gowns: they are a subtle yet powerful protest against recent budget cuts that are having a dramatic impact on science and education. #WOinActie
